An apparatus (the poclo.statigraph) for routine radiological examination of the foot under load is descrived. The radiograph shows the plantar imprint and its corresponding bone area. The new technique is very simple and gives an improved picture of static alterations, as proposed by Viladot and Roig-Puerta (radiophotopodography). The instrument is a free-standing 24 x 30 chassis hodling a flat rubber container (filled with mercury. The patient stands on the container and his foot pressure displaces the mercury. A radiograph is then taken from below. With a focal distance of 1 m, the central ray is directed towards the back of the foot at an angle of 30 to the vertical. The resulting picture shows a perfect outline of the plantar print, bordered by the opaque mercury. There is no superimposition of the distal meta-epiphyses of the tibia and fibula. Illustration are given of the technique. Clinical assessment is not attempted, since sufFicient material is not vet available.
